INSTITUTIONAL PROSTITUTION, Montreal, QC
Experimental dance troupe Institutional Prostitution's debut performance was on the first day of POP last fall and life has been good to the lazy-rap two-piece since: a smattering of winter performances and projects, including their first official release Baroque Rococo on local experimental tape label Les Discos Enfantasmes and recording with regional avant-garde artist, producer and promoter of repute Blake Hargreaves. Institutional Prostitution will be playing their first show outside of Canada this spring in Austin, Texas as they take to the stage at SXSW, playing an event with the inimitable Gary Lucas.
Call for tenders to Mile-End artists
Projet Locomotion and Ex-Hi-Bi, teaming with the Cabaret du Mile End, le Comité des Citoyens du Mile End, Pied Carré, le Champs des Possibles, Mémoire du Mile End, Les Ville-Laines, ton-mile-end.net, V.I.P (Painters Collective), Ouvert/Open and Scope Track (outdoor short films event) are proposing to Mile End artists to participate in the event « Les Rencontres du Mile End » by submitting a project. May 25, 26 and 27 2012, during three days, we will take over the Mile End, both in outdoor and indoor venues. Les Rencontres du Mile End offer a multidisciplinary platform where exhibitions, performances, workshops and conferences will coexist in a lively atmosphere. As a genuine point of encounter between artists and the public, it is a unique opportunity to meet and promote one’s own art.
The file submission is open to all and free! The deadline for application is March 1, 2012. Our goal is to foster dialogues between artists, public and stakeholders of the art market. For this first edition, we want a return to a sensitive approach, by filling the gap between the actor and the spectator, and allowing the public to mix with the artists in their environment. If you are interested in opening your studio doors in the Mile End, please let us know!
Les Rencontres du Mile End present an opportunity for all of us to draw together a genealogy of the Mile End artists family by proposing an original event where each participant, instead of being a guest at an event, will take part actively in its development. We have the ambition to achieve a common goal, the one of living and creating together.
The project file must contain one to six pictures of artworks or one to three videos, giving priority to works that lend themselves to a shared space. Please note that a dedicated space will be set up for the short film events. We invite you to fill out the « artist » form, downloadable at http://www.ex-hi-bi.com/artiste.php by including a short description of your artistic approach. Please send it back to us at the email address contactartiste@ex-hi-bi.com.
We are wide open in terms of content! Don’t hesitate to make a proposal!
